02 Jul Blueberry Basil Lemonade
Fragrant basil adds a fresh, herbal note to this homemade lemonade. Easy and refreshing, it is the perfect drink to enjoy on hot summer days. The Basil Simple Syrup that you will make and use in this recipe can also be enjoyed in cocktails, mocktails, or added in as the sweetener to whipped cream for a unique topping for desserts like a fruit pavlova or icecream.

Basil Simple Syrup
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 cup sweetener- sugar, honey, or maple syrup
1 cup basil leaves, loosely packed
- Combine sweetener and water in a small saucepan.
- Cook on medium heat until sweetener dissolves. You do not need to boil.
- Add basil leaves, cover, and steep for at least 2 hours. You can also place everything in a glass jar with a lid (this is how I like to do it).
- Once the mixture has steeped, strain out the basil leaves and store the simple syrup in a glass jar in the refrigerator.

Blueberry Basil Lemonade (Single Serving)
Ingredients:
½ cup blueberries
1 lemon, juiced
3 Tbsp basil simple syrup (recipe above)
1 cup water
Ice
Basil leaves and fresh blueberries, for garnish
- Place blueberries in the bottom of a shaker and mash well.
- Add lemon juice, simple syrup, and water. Shake well.
- Fill glass with ice. Strain lemonade over ice.
- Garnish with blueberries and basil leaves.
- Enjoy!
*You can also use a mason jar with a lid to combine these ingredients. Then use a small strainer before pouring into cup.
**This recipe can easily be turned into a cocktail by adding one shot of your favorite alcohol.
